Who is Allye Gaietto?

Allye Gaietto is a singer-songwriter based in Detroit, MI. Her songs range from sparse and simple to intricate and complex; genre-wise, it’s best described as a cross section between pop melody-writing, country storytelling, and indie rock instrumentation. Her lyrics are woven with self-aware fragility, brought to life by a voice always caught halfway between a shout and a whisper.

You could say that Allye is one of Detroit’s best-kept secrets, but the truth is that she kept the secret herself. Allye was writing songs in her bedroom for years before finally working with Gordon Smith of the Kickstand Band on her 2016 EP Some Kind of Heaven. Recorded mostly in Smith’s Detroit basement and mixed by Andy Thompson in Minneapolis, it’s is a testament to the power of a few good microphones and a lot of hard work.

In summer of 2019, Allye bumped into Detroit producer and arranger Maurice “Pirahnahead” Herd. She sent him a few demos, and the connection was immediate. They spent whatever time they could from November 2019-March 2020 at Rustbelt Studios in Royal Oak, working with Allye’s live band (Phil Keller on guitar, Jonathon Hackett on bass, and Will Daniels on drums) as well as a host of guest musicians (Ron Otis, Steve Stetson, Chris Codish, Soulchestra, and more). With the aforementioned Andy Thompson back to mix, the result is a perfect blend of a myriad of influences. There’s heartbroken pedal steel in I Guess I Don’t, 90s pop sweetness in Upside Down, gospel organ slides in Soon, and sweeping strings in False Hope - and that’s not even the half of it. Hoping for More, her first full-length album, will be released August 26, 2022.

As a live performer, Allye is an unexpected powerhouse. Once she steps onstage, something changes — she is no longer an unassuming wallflower, but a seasoned performer with commanding stage presence.

…Allye Gaietto excels at capturing the emotional turbulence we endure, from hope to grief. Gaietto’s songs on her forthcoming debut full-length album, “Hoping for More,” address subject matter (and often personal matters) that one might objectively conclude to be heavy and strenuous. But Gaietto consistently find the words that fleetingly purge those undesirable feelings of strain. Put those words to major chords and energizing melodies and we can achieve a sense of transcendence, if just for four minutes. Her piano-born arrangements augment her exceptional sensibility for poignant and stirring ballads to the point where it exudes a sense of strength and maybe even hope – if still bittersweetly.

- Jeff Milo, WDET

Throughout “I Guess I Don’t,” Gaietto’s raw vulnerability and tender revelation instantly strike a chord with people experiencing family estrangement. Crashing cymbals, thunderous drums, tearful pedal steel, forlorn piano, hopeful electric guitar and melancholic bass unlock tightly bound emotional floodgates.

Allye Gaietto is the sweetest kind of surprise. A singer-songwriter from Detroit, Michigan, she’s soft-spoken and unassuming, but finds her voice, that beautiful, glass-like, pitter pat of heartbeats voice, in her music.

Her first [EP], “Some Kind of Heaven” has a fragility and depth that belies her years of study at the McNally Smith College of Music.

Allye Gaietto, who released an EP in late 2016 titled "Some Kind of Heaven," creates cinematic-sounding indie folk that showcases her disarmingly powerful voice.
